This ceiling fan can be used from an 8'
ceiling by using a shorter than 12" downrod.
With a 3" rod the fan will only drop 13",
giving you plenty of clearance for headroom from a standard 8' ceiling.

the case of using this fan on a cathedral or vaulted ceiling.
